Abstract

Anxiety disorders are among the most prevalent mental health conditions worldwide, affecting individuals across age groups and cultural contexts. While pharmacological treatments and cognitive behavioral therapy remain standard interventions, growing attention has been directed toward complementary and integrative approaches. Yoga and meditation have gained recognition as supportive therapies that address both psychological and physiological dimensions of anxiety. Yoga combines physical postures, controlled breathing techniques, and mindful awareness, promoting relaxation and improved autonomic balance. Meditation practices emphasize focused attention and non-judgmental awareness of thoughts and sensations. Together, these practices influence stress regulation by reducing sympathetic nervous system activity and enhancing parasympathetic responses. Research indicates that regular engagement in yoga and meditation may lower cortisol levels, reduce heart rate variability linked to stress, and improve emotional regulation.
