Ecocriticism in Modern Literature: A Study of Environmental Themes

Ecocriticism has emerged as a significant interdisciplinary approach in literary studies, examining the complex relationship between literature and the natural environment. In the context of modern literature, ecocriticism explores how contemporary writers respond to ecological crises such as climate change, environmental degradation, biodiversity loss, and human exploitation of nature. environmental themes in selected modern literary works, focusing on how narratives represent nature not merely as a backdrop but as an active agent influencing human existence. ecocritical concerns including the critique of anthropocentrism, the representation of ecological imbalance, and the ethical responsibility of humans toward the environment. It also highlights how modern authors employ symbolism, imagery, and narrative strategies to depict environmental consciousness and ecological anxiety. Through an examination of texts across genres, this study reveals how literature serves as a powerful medium for raising awareness, shaping environmental ethics, and fostering sustainable thinking. By integrating theoretical perspectives from ecocriticism with textual analysis, the research underscores the role of literature in addressing contemporary environmental challenges. Ultimately, the study argues that modern literature not only reflects ecological concerns but also contributes to a deeper understanding of the urgent need for environmental preservation and harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
