Geography plays a crucial role in understanding natural hazards and developing effective risk reduction strategies by examining the spatial distribution, causes, and impacts of disasters. Natural hazards such as earthquakes, floods, cyclones, landslides, and droughts are inherently linked to geographical factors including location, climate, topography, and environmental conditions. how geographical knowledge and tools contribute to identifying hazard-prone areas, assessing vulnerability, and minimizing disaster risks. the importance of geographic techniques such as mapping, spatial analysis, and the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing in monitoring and predicting hazards. These tools enable the analysis of patterns and trends, helping authorities to prepare for and respond to disasters more effectively. Geography also aids in understanding the interaction between human activities and natural processes, which often intensifies the impact of hazards. Furthermore, the role of geography in disaster risk reduction through land-use planning, environmental management, and community awareness. By integrating geographical insights into policy-making and planning, it is possible to reduce vulnerability and enhance resilience in hazard-prone regions. The paper concludes that geography is essential for transforming disaster management from a reactive approach to a proactive and preventive system, ensuring sustainable development and safety for communities.
