Abstract

Sustainable development and environmental planning have become central to addressing the complex challenges of rapid urbanization in the modern world. Urban areas, as hubs of economic growth and population concentration, face increasing pressure on natural resources, infrastructure, and ecological systems. the role of sustainable development principles in guiding urban planning practices that balance economic growth, social equity, and environmental protection. the importance of integrating land-use planning, resource management, and environmental conservation to create resilient and livable cities. Environmental planning in urban areas involves the strategic use of policies, technologies, and participatory approaches to minimize environmental degradation while enhancing the quality of life for urban residents. Key aspects include sustainable transportation systems, green infrastructure, waste management, water conservation, and energy efficiency. The study also emphasizes the role of smart technologies and data-driven planning in improving urban sustainability outcomes. Furthermore, the challenges faced by developing countries, such as unplanned urban expansion, pollution, inadequate infrastructure, and socio-economic disparities. It underscores the need for effective governance, community participation, and long-term planning strategies to achieve sustainable urban development.
